Company History:
Dynamet Technology, Inc. was founded in 1972 by Stanley Abkowitz. Dynamet Technology is an independent corporation located in Burlington, Massachusetts. Dynamet's core business is the manufacture of components by advanced powder metal technology, specializing in titanium alloys and titanium matrix composites. Dynamet, through its innovative P/M manufacturing technology, is also involved in unique applications for other exotic materials including tantalum, zirconium, and niobium as well as boron carbide reinforced aluminum metal matrix composites.
Company Officers:
Stanley Abkowitz, Founder of Dynamet Technology, Inc., is company President and Technical Director. Mr. Abkowitz, an MIT graduate, is considered a pioneer in the field of titanium and is the recipient of numerous awards and has received over 20 patents in the field of new materials development and manufacturing technology. Stan is a Past Chairman of ASM International, Boston Chapter, The Minerals, Metals and Materials Society (TMS), Titanium and Powder Metal Committees, serves on the Federal Affairs Committee (FAC) of ASM, served on Materials Technology Advisory Committee for the U.S. Department of Commerce. He received Department of Army commendation for development of the Ti-6Al-4V alloy, elected Fellow of ASM International (1979), and is the recipient of the 1993 William Hunt Eisenman Award from ASM International “for extraordinary achievements in the titanium powder metallurgy field and for demonstrating a unique blend of engineering talent and entrepreneurial ability that has resulted in significant benefits to the aerospace industry”. In June 1999, Mr. Abkowitz was presented the Distinguished Service to Powder Metallurgy Award by the Metal Powder Industries Federation (MPIF). In October 2000 at its annual meeting in New Orleans, Mr. Abkowitz was presented the International Titanium Association (ITA) inaugural Titanium Achievement Award for his major contributions to the titanium industry. In October 2001, Mr. Abkowitz was the keynote speaker at the International Titanium Association's annual meeting in Las Vegas. His presentation commemorating the 50th anniversary of the Titanium Industry was entitled “The Emergence of the Titanium Industry and the Critical Role of the Federal Government”. Mr. Abkowitz has been selected to receive the 2005 Distinguished Life Member Award of ASM International for; "His creative titanium alloy developments and innovative powder metal manufacturing technology over the years that have significantly benefited the nation's defense, medical technology and the country's energy efficiency."
Miles A. Abkowitz is the Vice President of Finance and Contracts and CFO. He is responsible for all financial functions at Dynamet Technology. In addition, he is responsible for contractual, administration, and human resource functions. He rejoined the Dynamet team in 1989. From 1980 to 1989 he was with Textron where he was project manager, responsible for Rocket Nozzle programs, Chairman of the Materials Review Board that reviewed deviations from specifications, and instituted a configuration control system. Mr. Miles Abkowitz is a graduate of Worcester Polytechnic Institute, with a Bachelor of Science in Management-Engineering.
Susan M. Abkowitz is the Vice President of Technology & Operations. Ms. Abkowitz directs Dynamet projects, process development, and component manufacture for defense, industrial, and biomedical markets. She has co-authored many publications addressing Dynamet Technology’s titanium metal matrix composite developments and is co-inventor of five patents. She has presented technical papers describing Dynamet Technology’s titanium matrix composite technology at various technical conferences. Ms. Abkowitz is Past Chair of ASM Boston Chapter and a member of TMS, NADCA, and serves on the Technical Board of MPIF. Ms. Abkowitz was awarded Fellow Class of 2000, ASM International . Prior to joining Dynamet in 1989, Ms. Abkowitz was employed at Nuclear Metals, Inc. (NMI) as Quality Engineer and as Quality Manager. Ms. Abkowitz is a graduate of the Management and Technology Program at the University of Pennsylvania (Engineering and Wharton).
